Abstract:
The emerging body of knowledge regarding hip pathologies has rapidly grown in the past decade. New classifications and clinical testing for intra-articular and extra-articular hip pathologies have been developed. Often times, there is a gap between the growing body of research and clinical practice creating a disconnect. There is a need to update the certified athletic trainer on the most current clinical testing for common hip pathologies. This includes the statistical value of the testing, optimal sequencing within the examination, and proper testing procedures. This presentation will update the clinician on the most current clinical tests for extra and intra-articular pathologies. The clinimetric properties of each test will be discussed which will allow the clinician to choose the optimal sequencing for their patients. Also, newly developed hip pathology classifications and clinical tests will be reviewed.
Objectives:
- Participants will be able to describe clinical tests for common intra-articular and extra-articular hip pathologies.,
- Participants will be able to discuss the clinimetric values of each test and the optimal sequencing of testing within the examination.,
- Participants will be able to describe how to properly perform each clinical test and proper modification for related co-morbidities.,
- Participants will be able to appraise the research evidence on the clinimetric values of each test discussed.
