Abstract:
The pandemic caused by COVID-19 has had an adverse impact on the health of the world´s population. The development of COVID-19 has created the need for athletic trainers to understand and implement infection control guidelines, policies and procedures in the traditional interscholastic and intercollegiate athletic training setting. These infection control guidelines, policies and procedures are similar to those used in health care clinical environments and have not been consistently utilized in the traditional setting. Implementation requires the development of a new normal concept in the traditional interscholastic and intercollegiate athletic training setting. This course will focus on providing the athletic trainer with the knowledge and resources by which to develop guidelines, policies and procedures required for their specific Athletic Health Care Center.
Objectives:
- Participants will be able to identify methods of mitigating exposure and transmission of COVID 19 in the Athletic Training Setting.,
- Participants will be able to describe possible changes the attendee will need to consider in their Athletic Training Setting to mitigate exposure and transmission of COVID 19 or other infectious diseases.,
- Participants will be able to determine policy and procedure changes necessary in their organization that will facilitate practice at a new normal level post COVID 19.

James Zachazewski, ATC, PT, DPT
Jim Zachazewski, PT, DPT, SCS, ATC, is a Physical Therapist and Athletic Trainer with extensive administrative, clinical, EMR/EHR, compliance and academic experience in a variety of hospital settings regarding the provision of rehabilitation services. He has a successful track record of designing and implementing detailed programs and concepts and is licensed to practice in Massachusetts and California.
Dr. Zachazewski has recently joined the Brigham and Women's Hospital Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Division of Sports Medicine as an Athletic Trainer and Physical Therapist. He is excited to join this exciting department and looks forward to assisting BWH Sports Medicine in their continued growth and development delivering exceptional clinical care to all athletes and academic excellence.
Prior to this he served as a Clinical Director for MGH Department of Physical & Occupational Therapy, and as the Clinical Content Lead for the Health Professions at Partners eCare. From 2005 to 2013 while at MGH, he oversaw the design, development and implementation of MGH Sports Physical Therapy and MGH Rehabilitation Services at the MGH/BWH Health Care Center at Foxboro.
Between 2013 and 2017, he assumed the position as Clinical Content Lead, Health Professions at Partners eCare, holding primary or collaborative responsibility for the coordination and development of the documentation standards and tools used by PT, OT, Speech, Ortho Tech and Cardiac/Pulmonary Rehab. Collaborative: Respiratory, Nutrition, Social Work, Spiritual Care & Complimentary Therapies using the Epic platform. In 2017 he joined Cape Cod Rehab and Fitness until returning to Mass General Brigham Health Care in 2020
Dr. Zachazewski serves Adjunct Assistant Clinical Professor of PT at the MGH Institute of Health Professions. He has authored or edited 6 textbooks on orthopedic and sports PT, multiple textbook chapters and peer-reviewed articles. From 2009-2019, Dr. Zachazewski was a member of the Board of Allied Health Professions for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Dr. Zachazewski joined Lynk Global as an Independent Consultant in 2019.

Michael Belanger, ATC, PT, MSPT
Michael Belanger received his Bachelor of Science in Psychology in 1997 and his Master of Science in Physical Therapy in 1999 from Sacred Heart University. While at Sacred Heart University, he completed the Internship Program in Athletic Training as part of his undergraduate degree to qualify for certification as an athletic trainer. He has been a Certified Athletic Trainer through the National Athletic Trainers’ Association since 1998. He holds board certification as a Sports Clinical Specialist by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. He is also a Certified Manual Therapist with The Mulligan Concept and is credentialed as a clinical instructor by the American Physical Therapy Association.
Michael joined the rehabilitation staff at the Brigham and Women’s/Mass General Health Care Center in Foxboro in 2011. His clinical interests include sports related injuries, orthopedics, biomechanics and manual therapy. He also coordinates the Wellness Program as well as the Athletic Training outreach program that serves Foxboro High School, King Philip High School, and Carver High School. He served as the Athletic Trainer for Walpole High School from 2003-2014. Prior to joining Massachusetts General Hospital in 2011, he worked at Norwood Hospital from 2003 through 2011 as physical therapist/athletic trainer. From 2001 through 2003 he was a senior physical therapist and clinical specialist for athletic training services at New England Baptist Hospital, where he also served as the Head Athletic Trainer for Newbury College.
