Abstract:
This course explores conflict management and includes Interviews with three well-known leaders of the NATA who have significant experience in dealing with conflict and controversial issues. Conflict is defined as: any situation where your concerns or desires differ from another person (Harrelson, et. al 2009). Conflict that is avoided by leadership may result in a multitude of negative consequences. Thus, the purpose of this course is to explain the positive benefits of using effective conflict management strategies, to identify types of conflict that leaders may be confronted with and to discuss strategies to manage conflict. In addition, the listener should be able to recognize and evaluate their own personal listening skills to better manage conflict and to identify positive characteristics of professionalism among leaders to promote employee and volunteer well-being.
Objectives:
- Participants will be able to define conflict and how it can impact an organization and stakeholders negatively.,
- Participants will be able to explain the positive benefits of using effective conflict management strategies to improve organizational and stakeholders outcomes.,
- Participants will be able to identify types of conflict leaders may be confronted with and types that are specific to volunteer organizations.,
- Participants will be able to consider the role of perception in managing conflict. ,
- Participants will be able to discuss strategies to manage conflict to prevent negative organizational and stakeholder outcomes.,
- Participants will be able to recognize and evaluate personal listening skills to better manage conflict and improve outcomes,
- Participants will be able to identify positive characteristics of professionalism among leaders of organizations in an effort to promote employee and volunteer well-being.
