Abstract:
Research documents that discrimination and harassment directed toward lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer/questioning (LGBTQ+) individuals are ongoing and prevalent in the workplaces in the United States. An exploratory study to identify athletic trainer's attitudes and beliefs about bullying and harassment of LGBTQ+ individuals in the workplace will be the impetus for attendees to self-reflect on their own biases and treatment towards those who identify with that population. Professionalism and patient-centered care will be addressed to better understand how athletic trainers can be ally's in their workplace.
Objectives:
- Participants will be able to describe LGBTQ+ attitudes by certified athletic trainers.
- Participants will be able to describe differences in attitudes based on race/ethnicity, age, and gender identity.
- Participants will be able to examine the implications for healthcare according to age, race/ethnicity, and gender identity of the clinician.
- Participants will be able to provide examples of patient-centered care for those who identify as LGBTQ+.
- Participants will be able to examine ones beliefs of treating LGBTQ+ patients and how they fit into the NATA Code of Ethics, BOC Standards of Practice, and state practice acts.

Dani Moffit, PhD, LAT, ATC
Dr. Moffit is the Program Director of the Master of Science in Athletic Training program at Idaho State University. Prior to teaching at the post-secondary level, Dani taught and was an athletic trainer for the Meridian School District in Meridian, Idaho for 10 years. She volunteers her time with the profession, including work with the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education, the Board of Certification, and the Pocatello Free Clinic. Dani’s current research passions range from sexual harassment perceptions in athletic training to cultural education in health professions.

Glenn Edgerton, EdD, LAT, ATC
I graduated from Springfield College (MA) with a BS in Athletic Training and a Secondary Physical Education Teaching Certificate in 1994. I was a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Northern Michigan University from 1994-1996 and received my MS (Exercise Science) in 1996. I have worked in outpatient physical therapy, cardiac and pulmonary rehab, various high schools, and have taught on the college level (Clinical Education Coordinator from 2001-2005) since I became a certified athletic trainer in 1994. I received my EdD in 2013 after completing my studies at the University of Phoenix.
My interests include playing the guitar, cycling, running, and spending time with my family. I am a native of Long Island, New York and Northern New Hampshire.
