Abstract:
The goal of this presentation is to familiarize the athletic trainer with current practices in sport science including terminology, scope of practice & certifications, education, product use & implementation, and how the athletic trainer can become a bigger and better utilized component of this system.
Objectives:
- Understand current practices in sport science including terminology, scope of practice & certifications, education, product use & implementation
- Distinguish & illustrate roles within the sport science delivery system that can be filled by athletic trainers
- Recognize how information, context, and awareness surrounding how information, data and measurements collected in the sport science testing paradigms can augment athletic training practice relative to identifying injury trends, anatomical asymmetries, and potential elevated risk of injury propagation

Kevin Morely, DAT, ATC
Dr. Kevin Morley, DAT, ATC has been the head athletic trainer for the Nashville Predators of the NHL since June 2022. Prior to joining the Predators, he spent 14 years in a variety of roles in the New Jersey Devils organization, the final 5 as the head athletic trainer. Prior to moving into professional hockey, Dr. Morley spent six years working with the hockey team at Miami (OH) University.
Outside of hockey, Morley has worked with Red Bull North America, the ESPN X Games, and the Great Outdoor Games. He sits on the BOC Exam Development Committee, and recently co-presented the work of the NATA Cannabis Task Force.
Dr. Morley holds a BS in Health Science from James Madison University, a MS in Sports Medicine from the University of Florida, and a DAT from Florida International University.
