From athletic training rooms to city hall, Sue Finkam has built a career around helping people perform at their best. Today, as mayor of Carmel, she leads with the same principles athletic trainers value: preparation, teamwork, resilience and performance under pressure.

Since taking office, Mayor Finkam has focused on building a more people-centered city government, strengthening community partnerships and ensuring Carmel remains a place where families, professionals and businesses thrive.

Mayor Finkam earned her degree in Sports Medicine from Central Michigan University and a master’s degree from Indiana Wesleyan University. She worked as an industrial athletic trainer and became a Board Certified Ergonomist specializing in injury prevention, rehabilitation and employee wellness. Her career later expanded into healthcare leadership, entrepreneurship with FireStarter LLC and public service. After 12 years on city council, she now serves as mayor of Carmel, nationally recognized as one of America’s top mid-sized communities. She also serves on the Advisory Board of the United States Conference of Mayors.
