Natasha Denmark, EdD, ATC

I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Medicine and uphold my credentials as a Certified Athletic Trainer, from California State University Northridge (CSUN), a Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree from Arizona State University (ASU), and a Doctorate from the University of Southern California (USC) in educational psychology where I researched and published a dissertation on how cultural humility can be integrated into educational programs.

In addition to working for a Fortune 10 organization my experience includes teaching at the community college level within a sports medicine program. I am passionate about education and how it can inspire a students future. My work is learner-centered and I ensure that the whole learner is successful.

    This presentation will discuss how cultural competence as defined by the National Athletic Training Association (NATA) educational competencies can be embedded into practice and the athletic training program (ATP) curriculum utilizing Cultural Humility and Culturally Responsive Pedagogy (CRP). With the general population becoming more diverse, athletic trainers need concrete preparation to work with diverse patients. Studies by Nynas (2015) and Marra et al. (2010) show that a majority of Certified Athletic Trainers and Athletic Training Students do not practice culturally competent patient care.
